Schisms

There once was a BBS called ISCABBS. Ok it still exists, but it is a mere shadow of its former self. Anyhow, so this place called ISCABBS was just the cat's pajamas in 1994. And a bunch of people who met there got together and made a bunch of other BBSs, one of which was Heinous, run by the late great Bud Fields. Well, he's still alive, and he wasn't that great a benevolent dictator, but for a time, Heinous was Truly Terrific. For many years.
Then over time, Heinous became All About the Bud. And not the green sticky kind, sadly. So people said heck with this! And some guy named Cloudscout, who for some inexplicable reason was called Sparby by many, created another BBS called Atrium. And there was an exodus! The Great Heinous Exodus, as half the luserbase said heck with this! It was so, so sad. :( Heinous was home for many years, but now we were testing out this new place called Atrium. But then one day it crashed and burned to the virtual ground.
So GROG THE SAVIOUR made a NEW place called Eschwa! And it was good! And after several trial benevolent dictators, once Grog got tired of all the petty complaints, and Thufir threw up his hands and disappeared, MELA took over and it's been pretty good ever since.
In the end, Heinous died of natural causes, and those who were not part of the original Heinous exodus had little choice of moving to Eschwa... or going back to ISCA. Yecch!
We're still the same old bitchy BBSers, and we've lost far too many good people to petty squabbles and pointless arguments that get recycled more than a pop can, but all things considered, Eschwa looks to be home for a good long while.
Of course, there's still room for other BBSen. Utopia shares many users with Eschwa, but includes others as well, and tends to have a looser, bitchier posting style and much lower scroll rates.
