[edit] Popular Addons
Simplify your game. Addons help you remember old information, or access things that the WoW UI makes difficult to keep tabs on. While most addons allow you to share information across all of your characters (at least on a given PC), some will coordinate data across an entire guild. These are especially helpful to new members.
- Atlas
- Maps and coordinates
- Gatherer
- Makes a detailed log of all gathers done by your chacacter, including drop frequencies. Shared with guild members by default.
- Auctioneer
- Gives information about history of prices seen at the Auction House. Also adds vendor information to tooltips for all items (including quest rewards).
- GuildBankAccount
- Access the GuildBank inventory information
- KLHThreat Meter
- An add-on that calculates threat on a mob. All party members with this add-on installed can see each others threat level, making so tanks can quickly determine whos mob to focus on to help pull aggro. Downside: Does not calculate threat done by healers.
[edit] Macros
An excellent article on the new macro system is up at ExtremeTech. It describes how to create macros that behave differently based on environmental conditions.
[edit] Ravenholdt
In late July 2007, we all thought it'd be neat to play WoW on a new server, and to restart the social guild we had originally in Signe of the Schwa. After lengthy discussion, we decided to play Horde on a PVP-RP server named Ravenholdt.
We started play around July 27, and the guild was created on the 30th.

[edit] Guild Resources
Personnel and their skill sets are available above in the Current Guild Membership. Below you can find commentary on the current status of these and other resources. in addition to what we're still lacking.
[edit] Character Classes
A number of members have The Burning Crusades expansion, which means they are playing Blood Elves. Overall, we're a very magical bunch. Those who haven't picked a magical class have almost to a man chosen to create a Hunter. This leaves us with a problem in that we can't form a group only of guild members. Some of our members are ready to do their first instances already.
- Tanks
- We currently have one person with a pure fighting character. Unless more of our druids go feral spec, this will cramp our style once we get into bigger instances.
[edit] Bank
The guild has historically had a rather free exchange of items, either dropped, gathered, or crafted. This time around, we appear to have fewer crafters, so we will rely a bit more heavily on the packratting tendencies of our members. We are using GuildBankAccount (see Popular Addons) for this purpose, and the bank toons are named 'Eschwabank' and 'Eschwacraft'.
[edit] Professions
The guild members, having played multiple characters before, have typically made a more austere choice of professions this time around. Most have opted for the philosophy that money can buy happiness. Or rather, that gather/gather choice for primary profession, and fewer secondary professions. This will generally mean that the free exchange of items will be reduced somewhat to those things that are dropped by mobs or can be gathered (some items that can be crafted have looted equivalents). In practice this should not be overly burdensome if we maintain a small degree of redundancy in each craft.
Things the guild still needs, in vaguely descending order:
- Blacksmith
- We currently have none, and our fighters will miss this very soon.
- Herbalism
- We have 2 alchemists, but only 3 people (including the alchemists) have herbalism. This makes for very broke alchemists
[edit] Friends
We're a social guild, based around a fairly small community outside the game. That means from time to time we'll need to get a helping hand from people outside the current community, either for new members, or simply to help with difficult quests. Some mechanism for introducing the membership's friends to other members might be worth investigating, to help strengthen the bonds outside the core membership.
[edit] Signe of the Schwa
Signe of the Schwa was established on the Stormrage server, shortly after the game was released. Much fun was had. There was a sense of camaraderie and discovery that lasted for a while. Easy jokes and friendship were the norm, information and items were shared freely, grouping was moderately frequent but not entirely common, and 'raids' were organized as schedules, time zones, and relative character level allowed. It was perhaps best described as a social guild.
[edit] The 'End'
As the ranks of SotS 60-somethings grew, the group got a bit restless. Some wanted to raid, others did not or could not. At first several prominent characters quit the guild to join raiding guilds (Shadyone being perhaps the most notable early loss), and later some members of the guild arranged a limited time offer invitation to SotS members to transfer to another guild (there is some argument whether this constituted 'merging', as a small but important minority of the SotS membership declined). However, this new guild had designs on merging with a 'sister' guild, and eventually did, at which point the group had become more businesslike and anonymous. Some dropped off of WoW, a few went back to SotS, others changed servers or went off on their own.
