Karin might be able to fill in some of the details better, in terms of timing, but what I remember is being in the throes of living in a flea-infested too-small apartment and desperately trying to close on the purchase of our first home, and having spent the summer in various states of stress over foster placements, moving, and house-hunting, and we were both at work in pretty depressed moods, and I logged in to eschwa to a mail> from Neurophyre. I was in total shock. I called up Karin at work, said, "log into eschwa" and I scared her cuz she thought maybe something horrible had happened, but she logged in, and we just sat there in silence on the phone with each other, staring at the message, both of us with tears squeaking out of our eyes. I'm welling up even now, almost a year later, recalling it.

We felt so incredibly lucky, so totally blown away at the love and support and generosity of this community. Still am, both for ourselves and what I've seen done for others.

That computer has made a big difference for us. One less falling apart piece in our world was/is really really welcome!

Hi there. This message is to both of you (Yip and Byke). You may have been wondering why I was asking all sorts of questions about your old iMac in Mac>.

After I saw Yip's original post, I discussed it with a few users and we decided to do one of those sekrit "do something nice for a user" rooms to talk about replacing your dying computer.

I and many other people want to congratulate you on your new home and present you with a replacement machine for your iMac as a housewarming present. [snip]

You both are valued members of the BBS community. A lot of people came together on this in a very short time, and it makes me really happy to give you the news. You can of course contact me about it, or Misquoted who is running the room (but doesn't know anything about the technical details, she warns).

as Emma already said, we're speechless. this is beyond the scope of anything I can imagine people getting together and doing for us. it's not, however, beyond the scope of what I know eschwa is capable. y'all are a bunch of awesome individuals and we already loved having this community to call ours. i guess we just didn't know the feeling was mutual. :) [snip] thank you so much. i love my little text-based community. :)
